Greetings, fellow adventurers and young travellers! As the summer sun graces the historic streets of Oxford, the city comes alive with the vibrant energy of language schools and curious youth embarking on an immersive English adventure. These are young people, often on their first trip abroad, without parents. At Headington Haven Homestay, we offer a warm and welcoming environment for teenagers seeking a memorable stay in our iconic university city. Our Cozy Rooms The Jewel Room (Twin) Perfect for companionship, our Jewel Room accommodates two guests. Imagine stepping into our cosy Jewel Room—a snug haven where friendships bloom. It's like having a sleepover every night in the bunk bed. Bunk bed A place to study The Willow Room (Twin or Triple) Our Willow Room accommodates two or three amigos. Soft blankets, comfy beds, and a sprinkle of magic await you. Collaborations and Direct Bookings While many teens come through our language school collaborations, we also welcome direct bookings. We have chosen our partner schools for those which prioritise personalised care, ensuring a safe, enriching and memorable adventure in Oxford. What Unfolds Throughout the Day Mornings: Rise and Shine Between 7:00 am and 7:30 am, the house stirs with anticipation. Breakfast is our first act: crunchy cereals, wholesome muesli), and a choice of milk (yes, even plant-based options). And don't worry, we've got tea or coffee for those who need a little morning buzz. Mid-Morning Adventures 8:30 am: While our guests tend to head off to language classes and touristy or cultural activities, our resident teen heads off to school. (English schools break up late.) Packed in their bags are thoughtfully prepared lunchboxes with a sandwich or two and some snacks. Sandwich production line for the lunchboxes Weekends? Filled with excursions by the language school, but if anyone finds themselves free, then weekends mean leisurely brunch. We treat ourselves to eggs, crumpets (like fluffy pancake-like creations), and sometimes the real deal—pancakes that practically hug your taste buds. Sometimes we have lazy Sundays The days pass quickly for our residents, as the school gives them plenty to do. Afternoons: Reunion Time Between 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm, the house fills up again. Backpacks drop, shoes kick off, and stories spill out. Freshening up and changing clothes—it's all part of the rhythm. Our cosy abode buzzes with youthful energy again Evenings: Where Conversations Flourish Dinnertime is our symphony. Picture English classics mingling with international flavours. (Most young people book as full or half board.) We gather around the table, sharing tales of the day over our meal. Pizza night The meals are adapted to guests' tastes, but stretching their taste buds for a cultural immersion. We also try to cook seasonal produce and local ingredients. These are the meals we enjoyed last week: Monday: Spicy sweet potato soup and carbonara Tuesday: mushroom cream soup and chicken or steak and kidney pies with mixed salad (because the boys this week said they love salads) Wednesday: Chicken goulash with gnocchi Thursday: Sweetcorn soup and Sausages and mash Friday: Seafood risotto and Creme caramel Saturday: Ribs, roast potatoes and salad Sunday: Beef broth and Bean stew with rice Monday: Toad in the hole with green beans and mash Tuesday: Tomato soup and Bread and butter pudding Wednesday: Hamburgers and chips and Melon Thursday: Chill con carne with riceFriday: Home-made pizzas (and a movie with popcorn) Saturday: Fish and chips Sunday: Sunday roast with roast potatoes and steamed veggies After dinner, we clear up, and do the dishes ( by which we mean fill the dishwasher) together. Often board games, cards or the chess board are whipped out then. Sometimes we watch something together on TV, though the resident cat, Gremlin and our resident dog Alice will frequently distract us with their evening "zoomies". A game of chess anyone? We try to engage our young guest, so as not to disappear into their rooms, but stay downstairs to chat some more (even while we are watching something together -which always has subtitles for blended learning). And guess what? Alice also insists on evening walks. Sometimes, she's got a whole crew joining her—because adventures are better when shared! Alice loves to go for walks with guests Nighttime Peace Laughter echoes from bedrooms, but fear not. A gentle reminder ensures a good night's sleep. And keep an eye out for Gremlin:.
